Domestic violence is an international problem; its prevention and control are highly relevant in all European countries and beyond. European approach is particularly evident in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The legal measures of each member state of the Council of Europe are based on different approaches. An important German approach, in addition to the public law protection of the victim by the police, is the protection by civil law for the purpose of prevention and compensation. European approach and German one are the focus of the following article.
